Developing our colleagues is vital to their engagement and retention, and key to the collective success of our business. Whether you are just starting your career or you want to develop your skillset for your own career aspirations and drive personal success – Arcus will support you every step of the way.
We believe our apprentices and our apprenticeship schemes are truly the best, and are a great source of pride for our business.
On 26 April 2022, two of our Refrigeration Apprentices, Louis Fox and Peter Smith, qualified top three out of 50 students from Eastleigh College and were chosen to attend the RACHPSkills UK Competition Regional Finals.
The RACHPSkills regional finals consisted of two parts:
1. Completing f-gas commissioning and de-commissioning
2. Make up and finish a piece to a set plan
Throughout the day our apprentices were putting their skills to the test by partaking in various exercises such as; taking a copper pipe test piece using skills like brazing, swaging, flaring, and pipe bending – this had to be within 2mm tolerance and leak tested and working on a small rig to vacuum, pressure test, leak test, reclaim, charge with refrigerant, reclaim and fix a fault they put on the system.
We caught up with our Cooling Champions to hear about their experience at the RACHPSkills UK Competition Regional Finals.
Louis Fox said, “To qualify for the regional finals was a great accolade for me. I have only been an apprentice for eight months and this is my first job since leaving school and I have put my heart and soul into learning all I can. Being a young apprentice hasn’t been an issue for me, although when I first started it was quite daunting as I was surrounded by people with much more experience – but my team have been very supportive and respectful.”
Peter Smith said, “Finding out I qualified top three in my college, felt like an incredible achievement and I was honoured to not only represent myself at the Regional Finals but also Arcus. I am looking forward to seeing how far I can progress through the competition.”
Congratulations to both Louis and Peter, this is a fantastic achievement not just for yourselves but for Arcus and the future of refrigeration engineers.
